Emata is a Ugandan fintech (and licensed MFI) working in agriculture. We partner with agri companies to give smallholder farmers affordable, AI-powered digital loans.
We leverage data science and partner with agri companies to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure financial inclusion.
Emata is currently working with over 60 agri companies across Uganda, in dairy, coffee, cocoa, oilseeds, potatoes, and horticulture.

Our story
2020
We started Emata out of our frustration that African banks were not using new tech and big data to finance farmers.
Farmers account for 20-30% of African economies but only receive a fraction of loans.
In March 2020, we set out to solve agricultural financing! In December, we received our Microfinance License in Uganda.

We expanded from dairy into maize, oilseeds & coffee.
We also joined the Norrsken Impact Accelerator in Stockholm, Sweden.

We raised a $2.4 million seed round backed by African Renaissance Partners, Norrsken VC, DRK Foundation, Zephyr Acorn, Marcus Boström & the Dutch Embassy.
We were also named "Best Newcomer" in the world at the Global Startup Awards!
